The Impact of Motivation Enhancing-CBT Program on Suicide Prevention among Suicide Attempters : A Pilot Study

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the preventive effectiveness of motivation enhancing-CBT program on suicide attempters registered in the mental health welfare centers. The program was conducted using quasi-experimental design. In the experimental group, motivation enhancing-CBT program was provided with 5 clients once a week for 60 minutes for a total of 6 sessions including one pre-session. We utilized another 5 members as non-equivalent control group. to verify the program effectiveness. The results of the study showed that the motivation enhancing-CBT program was significantly effective in enhancing self-efficacy and life satisfaction motivation while reducing depression, hopelessness, and suicidal ideation. this research output indicates that the program can be utilized as an effective tool for suicide prevention intervention in the community.
